| English | Further, if it is accepted as above, then if someone with the bodhisattva vow were to say a slight untruth for the sake of a joke or were to trick another sentient being in a minor way and so on, and this were done without remorse, then the bodhisattva vow would be lost when a period of time has elapsed. This is because both the Bodhisattva Grounds and the Anthology of Training say that to lose the aspirational spirit of awakening is to lose the vow. If it is accepted in this way, then these actions would also have to be classified as root downfalls, but since they are nowhere described as such, it is said that this is unreasonable. Therefore it makes sense to maintain, as was explained above, that the four negative factors are not causes for forsaking the spirit of awakening. |
