| English | This is also established through reasoning, because it is contradictory that a given thing is itself [both] object and agent, and because something to be seen and a seer do not meet in the same place simultaneously when those who are involved in yoga internally examine their own minds. This becomes more profound and subtle in direct proportion to the extent to which it is examined, until finally the very discursiveness of something to be seen and something that sees subsides. This is like when one [tries to] gauge the proportions of the width and the circumference of [the flame of] a butter lamp with a thread, during which the thread itself is burned. Thus, this leaves one unable to determine the size [of the flame]. |
