| English | At the present time, people who can distinguish the key points of the definitive and provisional teachings regarding the intended meaning of the immaculate scriptural tradition are rare indeed. So, for example, Jamyang Namgyal of Dokham, who does have some slight proficiency in the explanation and practice of the Doctrine, has composed a commentary on the “Wisdom Chapter” of the Bodhicaryāvatāra entitled Norbu Ketaka, or Ketaka Jewel, in which, by dint of irrelevant assertions and refutations, as well as grossly pretentious explanations that fail to distinguish the different tenet systems, high and low, he makes many mistakes that contradict the scriptures and the use of reasoning. So in this text of mine, at the same time as explaining the profound meaning, I shall briefly refute him and state our position. In so doing, I am motivated not by the wish for distinction in learning, or by the desire to say things that others might find unpleasant. On the contrary, the reason for my writing is rather to cut through the net of hesitation and wrong view on the part of intelligent and interested people who will come after me.[p.297]The Wisdom Chapter |
