English

Therefore the simple self-knowing mind exists undeniably and irrefutably on the level of everyday worldly experience. If, on the other hand, one asks how it knows itself, and if one searches for something called the “self-cognizing mind,” such a designated object will not at all be found as something that exists in an ultimate sense. It exists merely within the unexamined worldly consensus. When no investigation is made as to whether it exists or does not exist in an ultimate sense, and when it is taken simply according to the testimony of the ordinary worldly mind that names things according to how they appear, the mind—because it arises in the nature of clarity and knowing—is said to be self-knowing. Since there is no distinction between the object, agent, and act in terms of different substances, the term self is certainly justified; and given that the object, agent, and act are all designated by the mind, it is quite correct to say knowing or cognizing.
