If this is not the case, an antidote to the cognitive obscurations becomes logically incomprehensible. If the simple realization of the two no-selves is not the antidote, no other antidote can be found, and it will be difficult to find anyone able to eliminate the cognitive veil. Furthermore, if habitual tendencies hinder the understanding of all knowledge objects, why should not the manifest defilements also create an obstruction to it? Conversely, if manifest defilements do not obstruct it, the habitual tendencies should obstruct it even less. Seeing the problems entailed in adopting the position that the cognitive veils are not eliminated on the seven impure grounds, I spoke (in the Ketaka Jewel) according to the earlier tradition; but this was not out of blind attachment to our view.
