| English | The body is not the ribs or hands. It is not the armpits, the shoulders, the bowels, or entrails. It is neither the head nor the throat. None of these individual items is the body, for none of them corresponds to the body’s definition. They are like body parts scattered on a charnel ground. They appear to be related to each other now, but since they remain distinct in their own place without merging mutually, the one with the other, how can they become “a body”? Moreover, a hand and so on could be amputated, but the body would still be considered to remain. What, therefore, is this so-called body, this aggregate of many parts? |
