The thirty-two teeth, the twenty-one thousand hairs, the twenty nails, the 360 bones of the skeleton; all the liquid substances in the form of blood, nasal discharge, phlegm, lymph, and rotten blood in the form of pus; all the outer and inner fats, the body’s perspiration; the lungs, liver, heart, and other inner organs; the body’s waste in the form of excrement and urine; the flesh and the skin, the body’s warmth and respiration; and all its cavities like the ears and so on—none of these is the self. All these constituents are impermanent, being formed of many parts, themselves arising from infinitesimal particles. Neither individually nor in the aggregate can they constitute the self. As the Sūtrālaṅkāra says, "It does not dwell in what is bad, for this would contravene its character.”
