There is, however, no difference at all between these two assertions of emptiness. The personal no-self is simply the fact that the personal self is just an imputation made on the basis of the aggregates; it has no inherent existence. The phenomenal no-self is simply the fact that objects like the body, pots, and so on, and even the aggregates, are imputations made on the basis of their assembled parts; they are empty of intrinsic being. Consequently, the only difference between these two kinds of emptiness lies in the objects that are taken as its basis. The understanding of the phenomenal no-self is the antidote to clinging to phenomena in general, while the realization of the personal no-self is the antidote to the cause of samsara. Aside from this distinction, there is no difference between these two modes of emptiness.
