| English | Knowing this, we should first pursue, or rather accomplish, through the application of many methods, the calm abiding of the mind. This concentration of calm abiding, which is the cause or basis of penetrative insight, is achieved by those who renounce attachment to the world (in the sense both of possessions and of other beings), who dwell in solitude, and who train in concentration with unfeigned joy. No one else can manage it. The unfailing way to engage gradually in the perfect path has been described by Vasubandhu, the second Buddha: |
