Description

The Jinamārgāvatārodbhavapraṇidhāna ("An Aspirational Prayer Taken From 'Entering onto the Path of the Conqueror'") is a short aspirational prayer composed by the Indian paṇḍita Buddhaśrījñāna (Paṇḍita Sangs rgyas dpal ye shes). The prayer is structured as a bodhisattva's comprehensive dedication of merit, encompassing aspiration for the liberation of all beings from the lower realms, attainment of precious human and divine rebirth, refuge in the Three Jewels, practice of the Mahāyāna path through all stages of the bhūmis, and the purification of buddha fields culminating in full awakening. Among its notable themes are the bodhisattva's commitment to benefit beings even those who cause harm, steadfast endurance of saṃsāric suffering for the sake of others, and the aspiration that all buddhas remain in their fields and continuously rain the Dharma upon beings. The text invokes the aspiration prayers of Samantabhadra and Mañjuśrī as models, expressing the wish that the author's own aspirations be fulfilled in the same manner. The prayer closes with an aspiration that all world realms be filled with the qualities of the tathāgatas.
