Bodhisattvagocaropāyaviṣayavikurvitanirdeśasūtra/Full text
The Āryabodhisattvagocara-upāyaviṣaya-vikurvāṇa nirdeśa nāma Mahāyānasūtra or Āryasatyakaparivarta is a medium-Iength early Mahāyāna sutra dealing with Buddha's teachings on both conventional and ultimate truths as weII as integrating these teaching with advice on state policy. Thus, this sūtra is full of the jewels of Buddha's teaching, which can be stored in the treasury of one's own mind. Its archaic language is simple and clear and it is filled with profound meaning, its similes lovely and vivid.
This sūtra discusses all the stages of practice of the path to enlightenment starting with the ten virtuous actions, upward to the universal compassion of bodhisattvas and the Buddha, and explaining the relationship of action and effect from the viewpoints of conventional truth and the inexpressible state of ultimate truth, In short, it demonstrates how to accumulate the store of merit from giving, morality, forbearance, and striving and the store of knowledge from meditation and insight in order to accomplish omniscience for the benefit of sentient beings.
