This page will include a short introduction to Śāntideva's teachings on meditation methods and practice as expounded in his works (BCA and Siks.) The purpose of this page is to provide a general overview of what meditation is about from the perspective of a researcher and practitioner of Mahayana Buddhism. In this context, it will be important to contextualize meditation with regard to the role it plays in the broader notion of a path and highlight differences and similarities with non-Mahayana traditions.
Providing a short list of meditative practices taught by Śāntideva would be ideal. Since we will have several pages on the main practices of the bodhisattvas, this page should remain a general introduction to the concept of meditation and how it fits into the idea of a path. The concept of meditation will be illustrated by selecting a specific practice taken as an example. To this end, quotes from the BCA will be provided.
