Description

This was created from teachings given in Italy by Geshe Yeshe Tobden between July and October 1983. The oral translation of the teachings from Tibetan into English was done by Acharya Ngawang Sherab, teacher at the University of Buddhist Studies at Varanasi, India, and now a geshe. The translation from English into Italian was done mainly by Dario Tesoroni. These teachings were published as a complete book in Italian first, and with the support of Mr. Richard Gere, were translated into English for this book.

Expounded by an accomplished scholar and deeply realized meditator, Shantideva’s Guide to Awakening is a resource for a lifetime of study. Chapter by chapter and verse by verse, Geshe Yeshe Tobden maps the Bodhicharyavatara in clear and insightful language, helping us to deepen our understanding of its teachings and apply them to our lives. Teaching based on

An "Introduction to Bodhisattva Practice," the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra is a poem about the path of a bodhisattva, in ten chapters, written by the Indian Buddhist Śāntideva (fl. c. 685–763). One of the masterpieces of world literature, it is a core text of Mahāyāna Buddhism and continues to be taught, studied, and commented upon in many languages and by many traditions around the world. The main subject of the text is bodhicitta, the altruistic aspiration for enlightenment, and the path and practices of the bodhisattva, the six perfections (pāramitās). The text forms the basis of many contemporary discussions of Buddhist ethics and philosophy.
