Éditions du Seuil

Editions du Seuil is a French publishing house created in 1935 and belonging to the Média Participations group since 2017.

Created shortly before the Second World War by a group of Catholic inspiration gathered around Abbé Plaquevent, the publishing house would play a major role in literary and intellectual production in France from the post-war period onwards, under the direction of Jean Bardet and Paul Flamand. It owes its name to this objective: "The threshold is all the excitement of departure and arrival. It is also the brand new threshold that we are rebuilding at the door of the Church to allow many to enter, whose feet were groping around it." (letter from Abbé Plaquevent, from December 28, 1934).

Seuil has particularly developed the publication of international literature and essays in the human and social sciences. (Source Accessed Dec 13, 2024)
