| English | When this happens, if the person concerned is someone who has already acquired—through an examination based on study and reflection—a strong conviction of the inseparability of emptiness and dependent arising, he or she will be in a position to compare the experience that occurred in the course of analysis with the experience occurring now, which does not derive from analysis but from resting in the natural state of mind free from all apprehension and clinging. On both occasions, there is no difference whatever in what is taken as the object, namely, the fundamental nature in which emptiness and dependent arising are indivisible. However, when you are analyzing, it is like having your eyes closed and thinking about something in front of you, whereas when you are in the state that is free of clinging, it is like having your eyes open and seeing the thing directly. That is the difference. And once you have experienced this, then no matter how much other people may denigrate your practice that is free from all apprehension, and no matter how much they may explain to others the flavor of the treacle that you yourself have actually tasted, you will never have any doubt. |
