English	And if the aim for which we live Is thereby wasted and undone, What use is there in living thus, When evil is the only consequence? In that case, what use will our lives have been when the only real reason for living—the purification of evil and the accumulation of merit—has been ruined, when merit has been exhausted and there has been a great increase in negativity? What is the point in living such a life; what point is there in not dying, when evil is the only consequence? Surely there is no point at all.

In Buddhism, accumulating this positive force is seen as essential for finding happiness in future lives, and crucial as a foundation for following the spiritual path. Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a compassionate being who is training on the path to buddhahood and aspires to eliminate the suffering of all beings and take all sentient beings to the state of enlightenment.
