Sunday Livestream Teaching w/ Drupa Rinpoche (May 8th, 2022). ''Bodhicaryāvatāra'' - Chapter 6, "Patience." In this teaching Rinpoche begins by echoing His Holiness XIV Dalai Lama's statements from December 2012 at the Jangchup Lamrim Teachings in Mundgod, South India, when expressing; It is not just important to properly set ones motivation at the beginning of every teaching, but more importantly, is the understanding that we should make special emphasis in setting our motivation properly at the beginning of teachings we have already previously received. Which is to say we should never think, "I have already received this before," or, "I already know that." Rinpoche then goes on to give commentary for (Verses 12–20) from the 6th Chapter of Shantideva's ''Bodhicaryāvatāra'' entitled, "Patience."  +
Sunday Livestream Teaching w/ Drupa Rinpoche (May 22nd, 2022). ''Bodhicaryāvatāra'' - Chapter 6, "Patience." In this final class of the semester, Rinpoche asks us to focus on our own positive inner transformations by taking time to reflect upon what we’ve achieved in the last 5 months based on our own set goals. Bearing these improvements in mind, Rinpoche then asks us to reflect on the manner in which unchecked afflictive states, the worst among them being anger and hatred, have the potential to destroy eons of our stored virtuous karma. Reflecting on the origin of suffering, we are asked to follow its pathway starting from its beginning as a negative external condition leading to dissatisfaction, and onward to the response of anger toward that negative external condition, and then to continue by observing the manner in which our reaction further reinforces our negative existence by leading us into misfortune, and quite possibly onto the potential of falling deeper into samsara. However, even if we don’t believe this, and in just looking at it from a practical level, Rinpoche asks us, "Who really likes to be with an angry person? No one enjoys the company of someone with an anger issue." So for those who believe in their anger as being a positive trait, Rinpoche responds directly, answering them by paraphrasing from Shantideva’s verse 5 - chapter 6 by stating, "You think your anger makes you powerful, and that it helps you to overcome your obstacles. But no one lives peacefully, and no one ever lives happily with anger." This being so, Rinpoche finishes his response echoing the sentiment in verse 6, by asking us to be ever mindful of our true enemy, "anger." Rinpoche then goes on to give a functional summary of what we’ve covered of Chapter 6 so far, and then goes on to explain (Verses 21–25).  +
