This verse points out the extent of the bodhisattvas' commitment to the welfare of all beings. Their vow is to remain not just for this life but for all lives. As long as there are sentient beings trapped in the results of their afflictive emotions and karmic webs, continually thrown back into the terrifying prison of samsara, until then do the bodhisattvas pledge also to remain, to dispel the sufferings of all.
