The Vienna Buddhist Translation Studies Group is a collaborative initiative based at the University of Vienna, specifically under the auspices of the Department of South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies. Established to enhance the translation of Buddhist texts, the group is part of a broader effort supported by the Khyentse Foundation and aims to cultivate expertise in translating significant Buddhist literature into modern languages.

This group operates under the supervision of notable scholars, including Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Mathes, and engages in translating essential texts, ensuring fidelity to original languages while making them accessible to a wider audience. Their work is closely aligned with the global initiative 84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha, which seeks to translate all of the Buddha's teachings into contemporary languages for universal access.

The Vienna Buddhist Translation Studies Group emphasizes not only linguistic accuracy but also the contextual understanding of Buddhist concepts, thereby contributing to both academic scholarship and practical applications in Buddhist studies. Through their translations, they aim to bridge cultural and intellectual gaps between traditional Buddhist teachings and modern interpretations.

This group has consisted of the following members: Konstantin Brockhausen, Susanne Fleischmann, Katrin Querl, Doris Unterthurner, Jamie Gordon Creek, Daniel Gratzer, Georgi Krastev, and Julika Weber. The group operates under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Mathes (Vienna University).
