English

The exchange of self and others can also be used as a way of dealing with your negative emotions. If you allow the negative emotions to express themselves in the ordinary way, you cannot hope to progress on the path. If you do not skillfully deal with them, either by getting rid of them, or pacifying them, they will lead to the boundless suffering of the lower realms. Overcoming them will allow you to progress on the path to buddhahood. In the sutras there are many instructions on how to deal with the emotions by rejecting them. Here, we consider how to work with them through compassion. Take desire as an example.
