English	Furthermore, the Diamond Cutter Sūtra (Vajracchedikāsūtra) says: “Subhuti, consider this: stream-enterers who think, ‘I have achieved the result of a stream-enterer!’ . . . If a stream-enterer thinks like this: ‘I have achieved the result of a stream-enterer!’ then he is fixated on a self.”241Diamond Cutter Sūtra (Vajracchedikāsūtra, H. 18, vol. 34), 220a. It also says this for abiding in the subsequent three results.242After stream-enterer, the subsequent three results are once-returner, non-returner, and Arhat. This shows that when the achiever or achievement of a stream-enterer is held to be truly existent, then there is, respectively, the apprehension of the self of persons and the self of phenomena. The wisdom that realizes the lack of intrinsic existence is said to bring about the attainment of the awakening of Disciples and Self-Realized Ones through undermining the conceived object of the two apprehensions of self. This sūtra is also cited by Prajñākaramati to make known that sublime Disciples and Self-Realized Ones realize the selflessness of phenomena.243Prajñākaramati, Commentary on the “Way of the Bodhisattva,” 223b. The Mother says: “Those who wish to train in the stage of the Disciples also should train in the transcendent perfection of wisdom.”244A close variant of this passage can be found in the Perfection of Wisdom in One Hundred Thousand Stanzas (Śatasāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitāsūtra, H. 9, vol. 14), 460a. The Condensed Perfection of Wisdom says: “Those who think to become a Sugata, a Disciple . . .”245Condensed Perfection of Wisdom, 191b. There are many Mother Sūtras that clearly proclaim this.

Anātman - The Buddhist teaching of "non-self" or "selflessness"—the understanding that there is no permanent, unchanging self or soul within living beings. Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a compassionate being who is training on the path to buddhahood and aspires to eliminate the suffering of all beings and take all sentient beings to the state of enlightenment.
