Prāsaṅgikas do not, like the proponents of Mind-Only, claim that there are no external objects even conventionally, or that cognition truly exists; rather, Prāsaṅgikas establish the coextensive presence or absence of objects and cognitions. The way this is established is by reasoning and scripture. By reasoning, the objects and cognitions within the five aggregates are [706] both acknowledged to exist in mundane convention. Neither object nor cognition can be posited when the designated object is sought with reason; and from the perspective of a sublime being training in the realization that directly realizes reality, the five aggregates equally do not appear. As for scripture, the Mother Sūtras say that all five aggregates are empty of intrinsic existence, and the Abhidharma texts ascertain those five aggregates equally by means of their general and specific characteristics. So it is established that it does not make sense to separate existence and nonexistence within the pair of objects and cognitions.
