English

Some non-Buddhists claim that things like the continuum and the person are the creator of the world; seeing that this is not the case, it is said that the creator is mind only. Also, Bhāviveka responded that in the formation of the world, among material forms and mind, the mind is most important. Yet this is not making a claim in the way that proponents of Mind-Only do, such that mind only is taught after negating external objects. Candrakīrti also responded in tune with this, addressing these topics with seven stanzas in his Introduction to the Middle Way, beginning with: “Bodhisattvas oriented to the manifest . . .”159Candrakīrti, Introduction to the Middle Way, VI.84–90.
