English

The definition of the conventional truth is an object of deceptive perception that is found by a source of knowledge investigating the conventional, and the definition of the ultimate truth is an object of veridical perception that is found by a source of knowledge investigating the consummate reality. This is just the general way to understand these definitions; it encompasses all the objects observed by beings who have not reached the end of the continuum (rgyun mtha’)—those who have not integrated meditative equipoise and postmeditation. Yet it does not include the way of knowing for a sublime buddha, for whom each gnosis—the gnosis that knows what is and the gnosis that knows whatever there is (ji lta ji snyed mkhyen pa’i ye shes)—perceives both truths simultaneously.
