| English | Arguments refuting the way non-Buddhists proclaim eternalism and annihilationism appear in the scriptures of the great chariots. By understanding them, there arises an uncontrived faith induced by reason in the stainless teachings and teacher of our tradition. There are many other purposes served as well: the entirety of misconceptions is dispelled, such as apprehending suffering to be causeless; holding that suffering has a cause, but apprehending it to arise from a discordant cause; and holding to what is not the path and not liberation to be the path and liberation. Also, the potentials for predispositions, embedded from previous lives through the power of hearing the scriptural traditions of bad philosophical systems like that of the Cārvāka, are weakened. In future lives, all wrong views are turned away, and a predisposition is infused in the continuum for the authentic view to take birth quickly. For these purposes, there are many presentations of refutation and proof; do not think that these are unnecessary for the essence of practice. The lords of reason say this. |
