As for their teachers, there were said to be twenty-five, such as Mahāvīra, the sage Arhat, and Ṛṣabha. They go by many other names including Jains, Ārhatas, Nigranthas, Parivrajakas, and so on. The texts they consider authoritative include the Expanding Star.452Jeffrey Hopkins suggests, as a possible Sanskrit title, the Bhāratatārakaśāstra for the Tibetan rgyas byed skar ma’i bstan bcos. See Hopkins, Maps of the Profound, 179. They assert all objects of knowledge to be included in nine categories: life, contaminations, stoppage, perishing, bondage, karma, evil, merit, and liberation.
