English

In this way, the first mental engagement that is included within the previous preparations (nyer bsdogs) cannot eliminate any afflictions without the cultivation [785] of special insight, so it is necessary to cultivate special insight. Also, there are two kinds of special insight: (1) one with the form of a coarse peace and (2) one with the form of selflessness. The former is shared among Buddhists and non-Buddhists; it is a special insight that observes whatever there is, and is an antidote that eliminates just the manifest afflictions. It has also been explained before as an antidote that suppresses manifest afflictions in calm abiding, and is included within calm abiding.
