English

The engaged spirit and the vow are taken by reciting this three times. The words “progressively abide and train” mean that beginners initially train in what they are capable of doing. For the difficult trainings that one is unable to do, at first they are not trained in, and then one does what one can in each circumstance of aspiring conduct and after attaining the bodhisattva grounds. For example, you should not give your body without a pure attitude of compassion. If you do, it will be a fault. Yet there is a great accumulation of merit when it is given with a pure intention. So it is said that there are times when this gift not only is not a fault, but that it definitely should be given. Further, there is no point in explaining this to mean that progressive training is in the three types of discipline, such as the discipline of restraint.
