There are victors, perfect buddhas who work for the benefit of disciples with an actual embodiment of a buddha’s form, who intend to display the manner of final nirvāṇa as their concluding act when their work is done, in order to instill disenchantment in their disciples. To them, I bow down with my body, fold my hands, and offer these words of request: “We are blinded by the confusion of ignorance, lacking the eye of intelligence that sees what to accept and what to reject. In order to clarify precisely what is to be done and what is to be avoided, please remain for countless eons without passing into nirvāṇa to clear away our confusion of ignorance and not leave us in this state of blindness!” It is expressed in this way because one will not know what to adopt or avoid without a teacher showing what is to be accepted and rejected.[p.159]The Great Hum
