| English | As explained above, after contemplating well, you should strive to practice in a proper way the vast trainings that are appropriate to be practiced by a bodhisattva—as well as the intention to cultivate the spirit of awakening— as described in the sūtras and treatises, or as described in this chapter on carefulness. To do so, you should strive with an intention to be vigilant and an endeavor that enacts carefulness to avoid the discordant factors and to enact the antidotes in earnest. If you do not practice in this way, it is impossible for the disease of the afflictions in your continuum to be healed. For example, without properly following the advice of a skilled physician, how will patients be cured by medicine? They will not. Likewise, if you do not practice according to the words of the great physician, the Buddha, then how will the disease of karma, afflictions, and suffering subside? They will not. |
