English	You might think, “It is said, ‘If a root downfall occurs, the vow should be taken again,’ so isn’t it necessary to take it again? How can a confession bring you up from a downfall?” Confessing this can stop you from going to the lower realms, but it is necessary to take the vow again to restore the vow. This is stated in the Ākāśagarbha Sūtra and is contained in a verse in the Anthology of Training. These are respectively said to be the downfalls of[p.222]The Great Hum Duckworth, Douglas, trans. New York, NY: Wisdom Publications, 2025. a king, a minister, and a beginner because they are more likely to occur for each of them. Yet Śāntideva said that all three of them can happen for someone like a king with the bodhisattva vow.

Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others.
