| English | The object is a person properly training in the disciplines of pratimokṣa and the Vinaya. With a motivation that wishes to turn them away from that, the endeavor is to tell them, “What is the use of the pure discipline in the Vinaya? Exchange it for the Mahāyāna and cultivate the spirit of perfect awakening. All negative actions of body, speech, and mind that arise from the force of the afflictions will be purified by simply cultivating the spirit of awakening and reading the Mahāyāna.” If by this they turn away from it and engage the Mahāyāna while completely relinquishing the disciplines of pratimokṣa and the Vinaya, then it is a root downfall for the one who said this.
