It says that the vow is guarded through the methods of reading the sūtras and relying upon a spiritual guide. Furthermore the main method for guarding it is to respectfully follow and not forsake a sacred spiritual guide, someone who themself has taken on and habituated to the bodhisattva trainings and brings other trainees to it. The way to follow such a person is stated in the Way of the Bodhisattva: |
