For these two reasons, [16] I did not compose this treatise with the intention to bring many discerning people to it by impressing or delighting them.” This is a calm and disciplined way to compose, suppressing the pride of being full of oneself and one’s learning in the words and meaning. It means that this text was not composed with the arrogant thought that “I did this better than anyone else could!” |
