English

In the same way, one can examine the inner consciousness as well. Today’s consciousness, aside from being something imputed by thought on this morning’s consciousness and this afternoon’s consciousness, cannot be logically sustained as a consciousness that is established from its own side. If it could, then it must be either the same as, or different from, this morning’s consciousness and this afternoon’s consciousness. If it is the same, it follows that this morning’s consciousness must be this afternoon’s consciousness. If it is different, then it follows that once one has separated it from this morning’s consciousness and this afternoon’s consciousness, there must still be something left for one to point out and say, “This is today’s consciousness.” But this is not tenable because there is nothing.
