| English | In short, the aggregates that are the basis for the imputation of the self do not exist either as being intrinsically the same as, or intrinsically different from, the self. If they did, then as previously, many faults would ensue. All parts would become one and so on. For example, one should examine whether, inherent in this physical organism (the mass of bones and flesh), there is a “body” that exists from its own side or just a “body” imputed by the mind. If the “body” does exist—that is, within something that is just an assemblage of five members made up of material bone and flesh—it must be either the same as, or different from, these members. If it is the same, it follows that the causes of the material body of bone and flesh, namely, the sperm and ovum of the parents, become the “body” made up of the assemblage[p.311]The Wisdom Chapter |
