Setting up as his reason (in the debate) his statement that the (Shrāvaka) opponents believe that they are liberated just through the path of realizing impermanence and the rest [of the sixteen aspects of the four truths], he produces the consequence that they themselves do not believe that they are liberated through the rejection of only manifest defilements. But the fact that the opponents do not accept that they are liberated just by rejecting manifest defilement is an irrelevant consequence. And by producing it, Mipham is demonstrating very clearly that he himself has not the slightest understanding of how consequences work. I humbly request him not to act in this way. And even if the Indian commentaries are in question, when these stray from the wisdom intention of the great chariots [Nāgārjuna and Asanga], they are not to be accepted. For one should rely not on the person but on the teaching.
