From the point of view of an investigation that aims at the ultimate status of things, therefore, everything on the conventional level is established as being just a mental imputation. On the other hand, the conventional is not to be posited by that means alone. It is a well-known fact, clearly stated in the texts, that according to the Prāsaṅgika tradition, the relative is posited simply according to the ideas of old people in the world. And Drakar Tulku himself also says that one takes as the conventional what is accepted by old people in the world who have not turned their minds to emptiness and have not had their ideas changed by [the study of] tenet systems. If so, given that old people in the world have not engaged in philosophical investigation, this means that one designates as the conventional truth the existence or nonexistence of objects according to whether they appear or do not appear to ordinary, undamaged minds. Can it be that the old people of the world conduct a philosophical investigation and then declare that objects are just mental imputations? Or can it be that they know how to posit the conventional as being mental imputation, even without making such an investigation? These are questions that Drakar Tulku should consider!
