| English | It may be thought that because things are empty even though they appear, if one does not cling strongly to them, their mere appearance will not provoke one’s clinging to them as truly existent. But if while the mere aggregates are considered to be truly existent, the feeling of the personal self is not taken to be true, this means that ego-clinging does not necessarily come from one’s simple apprehension of the aggregates. For these two are different objects of focus, giving rise to two different mental attitudes. But since I mentioned this briefly above when discussing the meaning of the scripture “As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, and so on” (Ratnāvalī), I shall not expatiate on it any further here. |
