The cause of liberation from samsaric existence, the mind’s complete discernment of ultimate reality, is very difficult to find. In samsara, the habit of mental dissipation is extremely powerful, like a cascading river. Where is there a way to bring it to an abrupt and immediate halt? What is more, there are demons like Devaputra, friends of the dark, who strive so that we may fall into the lower realms. There are many false trails, such as eternalist and nihilistic views. And if one does not gain certainty, coming to the conclusion that this is the pure and unmistaken path—by discerning its goal and point of view—it is hard to free oneself from doubts and hesitation. For it is difficult to have all the outer and inner conditions whereby doubt is severed. And if in this way one dies without ever discovering the light of Dharma, it will be extremely difficult to find again the freedoms of the human state and to encounter the enlightened beings who are present in this world. It will be difficult to find time to practice their teachings wholeheartedly and so be able to turn back the flood of desire and the other defilements.[p.191]The Wisdom Chapter
