English

Even if millions of causes were to join forces, they could never turn something that is intrinsically nonexistent into a real and functioning entity— just as no amount of causes can turn rabbits’ horns into existent things. For nonexistent things cannot depend on something else. And the reason why there can be no turning of nonexistent things into existent things is that a transformation in which the character of nonexistence is not discarded and a transformation in which it is discarded are both impossible. At the time of nonexistence, there is no thing, for “thingness” and nonexistence are mutually exclusive. On the other hand, it is also impossible for something to divest itself of the state of being a nonthing so as to become newly an existent thing.
