English

When an investigation is made into a resultant effect, is it—as a producible thing—found to be existent or nonexistent? If the resultant thing has an intrinsic being of its own, why should it need a cause? The mutual relation of cause and effect is irrelevant to it. On the other hand, it may be said that a nonexistent resultant thing is engendered (brought into being) by a cause. But if the result is just something without any reality, what purpose would a cause serve in relation to it? Generally speaking, nonexistent things do not have causes, for they have remained within their very nature of nonexistence.119That is, they have never stirred from the condition of being nothing.
