It may be objected that if, of the two truths just posited, one of them (the specifically characterized things of the relative) does not exist, it follows that this so-called relative is posited by a mind extraneous to it. And if, through being posited by the mind, it is within the mind, this means that beings will[p.164]The Wisdom Chapter

never pass beyond suffering. For as long as beings last, their minds last; and as long as their minds last, the relative that is posited by their minds will also last. Therefore, nirvana, in which all dualistic conceptions of object and subject are exhausted, will never occur.101The point behind this query is that if the phenomena of the relative truth, specifically characterized (that is, extramental) phenomena, do not exist, they must be mental projections. If the relative is a mental projection, it follows that it—namely, samsara—lasts as long as the mind lasts, in other words, forever.
