| English | But if the consciousness that was previously perceiving sound is permanent, how is it that, when it later perceives a form or something else, it is not still perceiving sound? For it has not discarded the (permanent) nature that it had before. If the Sāṁkhyas reply that this is because it is not close to it, the Madhyamikas respond with the same reasoning as before. If the object is absent, the consciousness of the object is also absent. Moreover, if puruṣa is all-pervading, as the Sāṁkhyas believe, it cannot be said that the modulations or effects are close or far from it. |
