| English | It might still be objected that whereas there is no debate about the validity of the Hīnayāna, there is a debate about the Mahāyāna, and this is enough to discredit it. But the authenticity of a doctrine is not disproved merely by the fact of its being disputed. If it were, then since the Buddhadharma in general is questioned by non-Buddhists, and since the different Buddhist schools (each with its specific tenets based on a particular aspect of the teachings, as well as the eighteen Shrāvaka schools) all argue among themselves, it follows that the Shrāvakas should also reject the Hīnayāna. |
