| English | When it is said that there is nothing—no thing (such as material form and so on)—this means that what is being investigated is not found to be something that by its nature arises, remains, and so on, on the conventional level.38That is, it does not exist at all. At that point, even the nonexistent thing (dngos med), posited in relation to its existence, is deprived of its support, the existent thing (dngos po). This being so, how can it stand before the mind as a conceptual target? It cannot possibly do so. It is just as with the son of a barren woman. If he is not born, it is impossible to conceive of his dying. This is to say that nonexistence is posited only in relation to a putative existence. It is not an independent entity in its own right. |
