Then Brahma, Indra, and a vast assembly of other gods offered a golden wheel with a thousand spokes as a token offering, repeatedly requesting him to teach the Dharma. In response to their request, the Buddha traveled to Varanasi, where he turned the first wheel of Dharma on the subject of the four noble truths to the first group of five noble disciples and others for seven years. Through this, he rejected the view of clinging to a personal self, and led disciples into the path of self liberation or nirvana.
