English

The specific suffering of hungry ghosts is the weariness of suffering from hunger and thirst. Their physical bodies and their skin, flesh, and blood are as dry as a piece of wood that has been burned by fire. Their mouths are parched and their dry tongues are constantly licking their dry lips. Looking for something to drink, they are constantly searching for water in ponds and other places. Even if they see some water, they are kept away by weapon bearing guards who do not let them drink. If they find some unguarded water, it turns to blood and pus and becomes undrinkable. Hungry ghosts who suffer in this way are known as those with external obscurations.
