The paths of accumulation and application are the stage of engagement through motivation; they are also known as the stage of enlightenment thought that arises from motivation. Beginning from the path of seeing which is the first bumi, up to the path of meditation, which is the seventh bumi, is the stage of enlightenment thought which arises from the purification of benevolent thought. The three special stages of the path of meditation, which begins from the eighth bumi onward, is the stage of enlightenment thought which arises from the ripening result. The stage of Buddhahood, which is the accomplishment of the path of no more learning, is the stage of enlightenment thought which arises from the relinquishment of obscuration. These are the four stages of enlightenment thought. The Mahayana Sutra Alankara states:
