From this point54I.e., from verse 141 onward. onward, understand that the words "that one” refer to the old self with which one has been familiar since beginningless time. The word "I” refers to other sentient beings who are newly adopted as the self. In brief, one has taken the role of other beings, and other beings have taken one’s own role. With this perception, be diligent in the practice of exchanging self and others. In this world, also, there are some traditions in which one must imagine oneself as another, and it is said that such thoughts arise in these people. Here, what is known as jealousy, competition and pride, which are things to be abandoned, are in reality an antidote to self cherishing.
